FC Bayern is in mourning for its long-time president Fritz Scherer. The German football record champions announced that Scherer passed away roughly one month after celebrating his 85th birthday. Born in Augsburg, he held various leadership positions within the club for more than three decades. Uli Hoeneß, a long-time associate, stated, „With him as president, our club reached new heights.“

Club president Herbert Hainer praised Scherer, calling him an architect of the modern FC Bayern. Scherer served as treasurer from 1979 to 1985 before becoming president during a period when the Munich club became record champions. In 1994, Franz Beckenbauer succeeded him as president, but Scherer continued to contribute as vice president until 2012 and was a member of the supervisory board for many years.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the former chairman, remarked, „Many milestones of FC Bayern are closely associated with the name Fritz Scherer. He deserves the highest respect.“ Scherer is survived by his wife Claudia, daughter Katja, and two granddaughters.
